Listen to the Haaretz Weekly Podcast with Lili Ben Ami, hosted by Allison Kaplan Sommer

“We are receiving multiple calls every day from threatened women and domestic violence survivors, who are worried that their abusers will now have access to a firearm,” says Lili Ben Ami in an interview to Haaretz Weekly Podcast. "When the Michal Sela Forum looked into the matter," continues Ben Ami, "we found that the published distribution plan did not contain a focused screening mechanism that would prevent a predator with a criminal record related to domestic violence from obtaining a gun."

In conversation with Haaretz Weekly Podcast host Allison Kaplan Sommer, Lili Ben Ami, founder & CEO of the Michal Sela Forum, expressed her deep concern over the dramatic expansion of the ability of Israelis to obtain personal weapons in a campaign initiated by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. At the Michal Sela Forum, we have formally communicated with the Israeli Ministry of National Security by sending an official letter. Our purpose is to advocate for more stringent criteria to prevent weapons from falling into the wrong hands. Furthermore, we have requested that a thorough background check be conducted to mitigate the risk of domestic violence.
